NORTHSIDE, Ohio (WKRC) - People in Northside are seeing their fair share of wrecks. There’s one corner in particular they're fed up with: Hamilton and Chase avenues. The owner of the building at that corner says there have been three wrecks in one year. John Jameson has owned the building where Salon Gorgeous is for 20 years. He says the intersection out front on Hamilton and Chase has always been a problem, but lately, it’s gotten very bad. “Just in the last three months, we had cars going right up onto the building. I mean, that's kind of like a new phenomenon,” said Jameson. A crash from May was a little too close for comfort where the crash happened right out in front of the building. Another crash from November landed right at the front door of the salon. “People just really need to pay attention and be a little more cautious because this is a really bad intersection,” said Jameson. “The issue is a lack of respect for safety around here,” said Kevin Palmer. “People drive through like a bat out of hell. They don't watch for people walking or crossing the street." Palmer calls Hamilton Avenue, the “Hamilton International Speedway.” He says he was hit in the intersection. That's why he's hoping the city comes up with a solution. “I would definitely put up the things that tell people how fast they're going and do something to ticket people because the police are never around here to ticket anybody during the daytime,” said Palmer. “People fly through here and there are never any consequences." Jameson says he would also like to see barriers installed. “We’re just going to try again to reach out to the city and the engineering department to see what we might be able to do. If they can't really do anything, if there's some kind of solution we can do for ourselves in the form of barriers in protecting our building,” said Jameson. Local 12 reached out to Cincinnati city officials and they sent us the following response: The City of Cincinnati’s Department of Transportation and Engineering and the Cincinnati Police Department are working in conjunction with one another to address traffic-related concerns at this intersection and other areas across Cincinnati where issues or concerns may arise. The aim of this collaborative evaluation process is to determine if a particular roadway meets all legal and safety standards. The owner of the Tickle Pickle Restaurant, Sarah Cole, was hit and killed by a car while crossing the street near this intersection two years ago.
