In this video, I decided to share my experiences on how to avoid burnout and what helped me the most to prevent burnouts. ►If you found this video helpful Subscribe to the channel https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shockingfit Watch my free masterclass at https://go.tomic.com/free-masterclass What is burnout? Burnout is when you reach that moment of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress either from training, working too hard or general life stress. It's being overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands that the world puts on your. In my life, I've experienced burnouts with anything I ever did. Whether it was playing video games, trying to be a straight-A student in high school, getting my masters degree in college, working offline/online, starting a business, even this YouTube channel. The main reason why burnouts are such a huge issue for me is due to the "all-in" mindset. When I commit to a certain goal is give it not just 100% but 120%. It's that thinking "more is always better". While it may be true that you can get better results at the moment if you study more, train more, do more, there's a limit what your body and mind can take. Recovery is non-negotiable. We tend to forget that in today's world as we get caught up in pursuing 15 goals at once. It's that moment when you take on more than you can handle that you know you're gonna burn out, but we still lie to ourselves by thinking we can handle it. Here's what helped me the most. Set an upper limit for how much you want to achieve for a certain goal. i.e. When people start a diet they say "I wanna lose at least 15 lbs in the next 4 months" which kinda assumes "if I can do more than that it's better." And when I've done this in the past I would lose that 1 or 2 lbs per week successful but my extremist mindset would kick in and this would get me in trouble. Here's what I mean. Once I lost 1 lb that week I start thinking "Well, if I just train more and if just eat less I can lose even more." And then for a few weeks I amp it up and end up losing a few extra pounds but then I hit a wall. The body can't take it anymore, and the mind is equally drained. Will-power is low, motivation is low, habit is too demanding to sustain and it breaks. And then you fall off track for a month or two until you recover and get back at it. Essentially you end up spinning your wheels. Instead, why not set a limit "I wanna lose at least 15 lbs in the next 4 months, but not more than 20 lbs." This puts a limit on the goal and allows you to stay at a sustainable pace. It's this "Sustainability zone" where the magic happens And that's what you need to find, what is the amount you can sustain for months and years. It might be 2 lbs per month for you, or it could be 4 or 6 but pick a sustainable tempo and put an upper limit on it. This has helped me tremendously with preventing burnout. Now I have a limited amount of clients I can take on at any time. I have an upper limit to how much training I do in a week. Even videos, I have an upper limit of a maximum of 1 video per day. I have a limit on how far into a calorie deficit I'll allow myself to go. This helps me be consistent, and recover enough to keep doing it, to keep the routines going. And if you're suffering from that extremist overachiever mindset like I am this will change your life. Hope you enjoyed! Let me know in the comments below how this resonated with you.
