The manhunt is on for a gunman who shot an officer Tuesday on Fourth Avenue. Chattanooga police say they have a suspect in mind, but have not released the name of the gunman. Officer William McMillan was responding to a theft call when he was shot around 6 p.m. and taken to Erlanger hospital. He is listed in stable condition. Anyone with information is asked to call the police. ______2 Next up, the Hamilton County school board will meet today to decide which new school construction projects should get done first. While it's unclear when county funding will even be available, parents are already lining up to make sure their schools come first. About 150 parents, teachers and students met last night at Ganns Middle Valley Elementary to lobby for a new building. The 75-year-old school houses one-third of its students in trailers. Ceilings leak and parents said kids and teachers often go home sick because of mold problems. Nurses and guidance counselors work out of closets. The school has no gymnasium, and only 25 toilets for 600 students. The county has already purchased land for one replacement school, but several schools -- including Sale-Creek Middle-High, Nolan Elementary, and Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts -- are on the plan for upgrades. ____3 Next up, the Tennessee Republican Party denies leaking personnel files that benefited Representative Chuck Fleischmann's first campaign. The documents, which were originally stored at state GOP headquarters in Nashville, inspired a 2010 Fleischmann campaign ad that attacked Republican rival Robin Smith. The ad charged that Smith paid lavish bonuses to staffers while she was state party chairwoman. Fleischmann campaign consultant Chip Saltsman produced the ad using the personnel file of a former Smith aide, which included salary information and a confidentiality clause. Saltsman said an unknown source left the file on his garage steps. Fleischmann has declined to comment. ______4 Turning to local business, if you love Old Mill Kettle Corn, soon you'll be able to get it just about anywhere. The Chickamauga-based company has signed a deal to start offering its products in stores across the nation. Old Mill's plan is to use McKee Food's distribution network to deliver its products. The agreement is a new move for McKee, which usually doesn't partner with other companies. The partnership could help Old Mill expand to chains like Publix, Kroger and Winn-Dixie. Ingles will add Old Mill products next week. The company is increasing production from 800,000 to 6.5 million units a year, and plans to double staff by hiring an additional 15 employees in the next year. ____5 And finally, it's been 20 years since the snowstorm of the century hit Chattanooga. The Blizzard of 93 dumped more than a foot and a half of snow on the city and stranded thousands without power for days. Interstates were shut down by the record-breaking storm and emergency crews had trouble reaching people in a time before cell phones and more powerful vehicles. So where were you during the blizzard? We want to hear your storm stories. Share them with us all today at Facebook.com/timesfreepress ___ And looking at weather, no chance of another blizzard. Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 52. Tonight will be clear with a low around 27.
