While you are probably somewhere warm and protected from the elements, that's not the case for everyone. Some of Chattanooga's homeless are trying to figure out how to stay warm, when the temperatures take a drastic dip.-----Script-----Nearly 6-hundred people in Chattanooga don't have a warm place to lay their head. Some of these people stay in camps where makeshift shelters provide protection from the elements. But tonight many homeless are remaining in these camps instead of finding warmth in official shelters despite the threat of EXTREMELY cold temps this week.Well sometimes it's a pride issue. They don't want to ask somebody else for help. And they feel like going to someone who is offering help is asking them for help and they just won't do that. These makeshift shelters appear to have every amenity a person could need.Frying pans, makeshift heaters, and even salvaged sofas make these camps a home for those who live here. The people living in this camp have tried to make it look a little bit more like a house and so they put tarps and stuff over their tent to create more insulation from the weather and then they have these extra tarps over top so they have a roof and this is actually their living room area as we'd see in any of our houses...One man tells us how he plans to stay warm at this camp tucked off Chestnut Street.Put clothes on. Layer out. And basically that's survival in cold weather. You gotta eat. Keep your body fuel for the cold.-----End Script-----There are organizations like Relevant Hope dot org that visit these camps to give materials these folks need.
