To my ears and my heart, one of the most moving songs of 1978 was this exquisite follow up to the sublime 'Wuthering Heights' - the emotive 'Man With The Child In His Eyes'. Purportedly written by Kate Bush when she was just 13 and recorded at 16, this gem completely belies her youth, as does her entire debut LP 'The Kick Inside'.

It is why Kate is a national treasure in Britain and loved right around the world for her uncompromising individuality and spirit, and for cultivating art in her music, making pockets of pure genius rather than just pop cookie cutter hits. She has confounded, confused and frustrated fans with her long breaks from recording, her reclusive periods and her uneven recorded output, but there is no denying the distinctive place Kate Bush will always have in popular culture. Legend.

'The Man With the Child In His Eyes' was issued in May of 1978 and was a Top 10 in Britain; a Top 25 in Australia and a Top 3 in Ireland. For me it remains my favourite of all Kate Bush's recordings. The version here is the original album mix.
