Deck the halls with ... family arguments? Not on Christmas and New Years! Not all families are created peaceful. Some families have rifts and resentments that run deep. The key to keeping the peace is to understand that get togethers are not about revolution or resolution.

When feuding families come together, they can trip up each other's negative core beliefs such as "I'm not good enough, I'm unlovable, I'm stupid." The list is endless.

When family members CLASH, the fallout material is not pleasant, and the party is over. When you combine hostility with alcohol, the Truth Drug, matters can get worse.

If you are off to a family get together, keep it light, keep it casual, and don't drink too much. If you can show up feeling good (take a yoga or workout class before the party, for example), chances are that you will have more emotional control.

If you must speak, use the Peaceful Healing Dialogue, or PHD (available at www.DrJudyWTF.com, under resources).
Better yet, read my new book BE THE CAUSE: HEALING HUMAN DISCONNECT so that you can get to the bottom of your family disconnects and heal from the inside out.
