Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Excel Trick: Quickly Copy Formulas Down to the Bottom of a Large Data Set (Including Improvements) | MrExcel Netcast.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this episode, we're going to talk about one of my all-time favorite Excel tricks: how to quickly copy a formula down to the bottom of a large data set. This may seem like a simple task, but trust me, it can be a huge time saver when dealing with thousands of rows of data.

So, what's the trick? Instead of manually dragging the fill handle, I want you to double-click on the little square dot. This will automatically copy the formula all the way down to the bottom of your data set. And the best part? This trick works in all versions of Excel, from 97 to 2010.

Speaking of Excel 2010, there's a new improvement to this feature that I absolutely love. In previous versions, the formula would stop copying once it reached a blank cell. But in Excel 2010, it's smarter and will continue copying until it reaches the bottom of the data set. This may not seem like a big deal with only 18 rows, but imagine having to copy a formula down to 50,000 rows - this improvement is a game changer.

But wait, there's more! This trick also works even if there are blank cells in the column to the left. As long as there is a diagonal path to the bottom of the data set, Excel 2010 will find its way there. This is a beautiful improvement that I know will save you a ton of time and frustration.

"If you've seen one of my seminars, you know that my favorite trick is to Double Click the Fill Handle to copy a formula down the the Data Set. Excel 2010 handles blank cells in the adjacent column much better than in previous versions." - Bill Jelen
