Top 10 Weird Facts About the Human Body
#10 - Stomach Break Down
Your stomach acid is powerful enough to break down most organic material. Including your own Stomach, and it does repeatedly. Your stomach is just really quick about replacing the cells that the acid deteriorates. But once that lining is gone, you start to have problems like ulcers.
#9 - Sweat
The next time you go to your local pub or bar, order yourself a pint of whatever you like, and realize, you have over 500 million sweat glands that on average will fill that glass up to the top with sweat, every single day. Bottoms up!
#8 - Strong Bones
If you have ever been in a cast or suffered a broken bone this one might make you scoff, but Lb for Lb Your bones are about 4x stronger than concrete. So strong in fact that it takes around 2000lbs per square inch to break human bone, clearly not impossible to do so, but still very very difficult.
#7 - The Skin Your In
Point at someone and say "your Epidermis is showing" watch and see if they look around, if they don't then they paid attention in biology (or watched this video) epidermis is just another name for your skin, and it is the largest organ any human has. In fact its so large, if stretched out, an adult males skin would cover 20 square feet.
#6 - Population practices
Every day Men produce about 10 million teeny tiny versions of themselves (sperm). With that sort of output a single man could theoretically repopulate the entire Earth in about 6 months, question is would he be the luckiest or unluckiest man alive?
#5 - Population practice part 2
Females on the other hand are born with about 500,000 eggs, these are all the eggs she will ever have. The good news is tho, only about 400 of them get the chance to meet up with one of its hundreds of millions of suitors. The rest of the eggs are literally only there for backup. Pretty good ratio if you ask me.
#4 - Road map
You know how all those road maps have the pretty red and blue lines on them? Its just like your circulatory system with all of its veins arteries and capillaries going about. If you were to take JUST the capillaries in your lungs and stretch them out. you could make a nice trail form L.A. to Atalanta in one go. Dont try it tho.
#3 - You are not you.
Think about one of your favorite memories form say 10 years or more back. Remember how the air smelled? How the grass looked? hearing what people said? Yeah you did none of that. The person you are remembering does not exist anymore, in fact about every seven years you become a completely different person as all of your atoms by that time would have been replaced by new atoms. Sure you are still you But that body you were in 7-10 years ago is long gone.
#2 - Bright light
You ever felt a 100 watt light bulb when its on? Pretty hot isnt it? Well the Human body produces about the same amount of heat, this is why in closed arenas or venues theaters and the such, when you first get to your seat, chances are you will be too cold. This is from the maintenance crew taking into account that thousands of bodies are about to fill the room, and they drop the AC down very low to help cancel the heat you will be producing.
#1
Ladder to the stars.
Everyone has seen the classic double helix for our DNA right? That nice colorful representation of what makes you, well you.
If just for fun you felt like taking that information out of every cell in your body, and stretching it out straight. The Dna in your body would go about 10 BILLION miles. Thats enough to go all the way to Pluto, and back.
Time for the question of the day.
If you could get any stat for your life what would it be? For example Would you want to know how many times you have burped in your life so far, or how many miles have you ran? Anything at all. What would be the ONE bit of information you really would love to find out?
