Top 10 Things Not to Do on a Date

Number 10: The Ex

Kicking things off should be the most obvious thing not to do on a date but there are surprisingly a number of people that still do it! Talking about your Ex. Even if you aren’t bashing the ex but even something like that seems trivial like ‘my ex and I loved this restaurant….” Irritating and inappropriate.

Number 9: Money

Keep your income to yourself. There is no classy way to talk about money on a date. Flaunting your money and/or talking about money woes will send up the red flags.

Number 8: Facebook

Don’t pose and post a continuous streams of selfies. Don’t tag him/her in the selfies. Don’t update your location every time you go to a new location. Don’t post a restaurant bathroom selfie. The best thing to do would be just to stay off Facebook. You’re supposed to be getting to know the other person and giving them the attention, not your newsfeed.

Number 7: Eating

“Would you like a side of low-fat dressing with that plate of lettuce?” Please, eat something. Many girls won’t order a thing other than lettuce and a lemon wedge with water. People need to eat. Pretending not to be hungry makes the other person feel uncomfortable as they eat their steak in front of someone not eating.

Number 6: Teeth

Picking parsley out of your teeth at the dinner table is gross. People pick their teeth with all sorts of things. From credit cards to toothpicks. This behavior is reserved for the restroom only.

Number 5: Future

If you’re still in the ‘getting to know you’ stages of dating, talking too much about the future is premature. Career or educational goals are great conversation topics. How many children you want and when you want them is a little too much and too fast.

Number 4: Bathroom Habits

Discussing bathroom habits seems to be quite a common thing amongst most guys. Your date doesn’t want to hear what foods give you gas or cause your IBS to flare up. Flatulence and poop are things that are off limits on dates.

Number 3: Phone

Nervously checking for missed calls, checking NBA scores, texting others, etc. is unattractive. Having to play with your phone during conversation lulls may seem okay but it only makes you appear like you need to be entertained 24/7 and insecure.

Number 2: Bill

Dinner comes to an end. The waitress brings over the bill. Does the guy pay? Girl pay? If both insist on paying for your own meals, great. There is no need to argue about the bill but do at least attempt to pay for the others meal. Considerate and polite are a few of the qualities this portrays.

Number 1:

Discussing religious beliefs, politics, stance on gun control and any other hot button topic is the most important thing not to do on a date. Going back and forth about such things with someone that you are still getting to know, will cause assumptions to be made that are probably are incorrect, and these conversations get heated. This number one thing not to do on a date could sink your chances for a second date.

Time for the question of the day:

Paying for the meal. Who does it and why? If both want to pay, how hard should you push to be the one that does, whether you’re a guy or girl? This can get uncomfortable quick. Have you ever come across this issue?
