Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Excel In Depth 16 - Linking Workbooks.

Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel netcast. In this chapter of Excel In Depth, we will be discussing the powerful feature of linking worksheets. This is a trick that not many people know about, but once you learn it, it will save you a lot of time and effort.

Let's say you have a final presentation in one workbook and you need to pull a number from another workbook. Instead of manually copying and pasting the number, we can set up a link between the two workbooks. First, open both workbooks and press Ctrl+Tab to switch between them. Then, go to the View tab and click on Arrange All, followed by Vertical. This will allow you to see both the cell you want to link to and the cell where you want the number to appear.

Next, right-click on the border of the cell you want to link to and continue holding down the right mouse button while you drag to the cell where you want the number to appear. When you release the mouse button, a new box will pop up and you can choose the option to "Link Here". This will automatically create a formula for you with all the necessary elements, such as apostrophes and square brackets. It's a simple and efficient way to set up a link between two workbooks.

And that's it! You now have a link between the two workbooks and any changes made in the original workbook will automatically be reflected in the linked cell. This is a great time-saving trick that can be used in various scenarios. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the MrExcel netcast. Stay tuned for more helpful tips and tricks in our future episodes. See you next time!"
