Schalke say Huntelaar could leave Bundesliga club

There's uncertainty surrounding the future of Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after the club's Sporting Director Horst Heldt revealed that the Dutchman is stalling on a new contract. 

Heldt said the Huntelaar, who was linked with a move to Liverpool last month, wanted to see which direction the club was going in before committing himself.

"He's already on the move. No, just kidding. Obviously it is a controversial topic and it is looking like it will stay like that for quite a while - let's say for the next few weeks. When are talking about Klaas-Jan we are not talking about any money issues or something in his contract. He wants to see how the club is developing. We all do. For the moment I do not see an end to the discussion. But I am positive that we can figure something out with him. We are heading in the right direction, but again, I cannot promise anything. It takes time. We have everything in hand -  just like with Jefferson Farfan. And as you know - he stayed."

Meanwhile, head coach Huub Stevens is pleased with the dedication being shown by Huntelaar's compatriot Ibrahim Afellay as he attempts to fit into the side.

The attacking midfielder, who made his debut as a substitute in the win over Augsburg, is on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

"There are still moments when he isn't  quite on the same wavelength. But I would say that elite players can quickly sort that out. I think about two weeks ago I mentioned that he's still learning the language, but it's certainly starting to click on the pitch, which is fantastic. That's what I expect from good players and what Ibrahim expects from himself."

Schalke face a trip to newly-promoted Greuther Furth this weekend in the Bundesliga. After an opening day defeat to Bayern Munich, the newly-promoted side shocked Mainz 1-0 last time out to claim their first ever top-flight win.
