Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Excel in Depth: How to Draw Borders in Excel | MrExcel Podcast.

Welcome back to the MrExcel podcast. In this episode, we will be diving into chapter 30 of Excel in Depth, where we will be discussing the draw borders feature. This tool was present in Excel 2003 but disappeared in later versions, only to make a comeback in Excel 2010. Join me, Bill Jelen, as we explore the various functions and capabilities of this useful tool.

To access the draw borders feature, simply click on the drop-down menu on the home tab. However, I prefer to have this tool readily available on my quick access toolbar for easier access. In this drop-down, you will find five new tools that allow you to choose a line style and color. Once you select either one, you will automatically enter "Draw a Border" mode, indicated by the appearance of dots and a pencil.

There are two modes within the draw borders feature - draw a border and draw a border grid. When drawing a border, you can simply click on the border to add a single line. If you want to draw a range, you can click and drag to create a box around the selected cells. You can also change the line color by selecting a different color from the drop-down. On the other hand, draw border grid is a great way to quickly fill in a grid by selecting the starting and ending points.

While there are many settings available in the border drop-down, I often find myself heading straight to "More Borders" to achieve the desired result. However, with these new tools, you can easily erase, draw a grid, or draw borders without having to leave the drop-down menu. This is a clever feature that allows you to achieve the same results as the traditional dialog box, but with a more streamlined approach.

Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the MrExcel podcast. I hope you found this tutorial on the draw borders feature helpful. Don't forget to join us next time for another netcast, where we will be exploring more Excel tips and tricks. See you soon!
