AMBERLEY VILLAGE, Ohio (WKRC) – It’s one of the most watched congressional races, and in a forum hosted by Local 12, it didn’t take long for the two candidates in Ohio’s 1st Congressional District to go after each other.

teve Chabot is seeking an 11th term while Aftab Pureval is in his first-ever congressional race after being elected Hamilton County Clerk of Courts in 2016. The two picked up where negative TV ads left off.

On the other side of the stage, two candidates in Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District sat next to each other: Brad Wenstrup and Jill Schiller.

The debate got heated nearly every time Jeff Hirsh asked a question to Chabot and Pureval.

“Do you want us to do our job?” said Chabot.

Pureval quickly responded:

“Do I want you to do your job? I do. But you had 22 years to do your job, but according to you, you’re just getting started,” said Pureval.

Back and forth they went all night.

“This man doesn’t even know what’s talking about,” said Chabot.

The two squared off on the economy too and whether or not President Donald Trump's tax cuts are responsible for low unemployment numbers.

“I think clearly the tax cuts and jobs act I voted for -- and my opponent indicated he would have voted against it -- has been tremendous. Jobs for so many people,” said Chabot.

Pureval added:

“I’m for tax cuts for middle class families, working class families, small businesses but that’s what happened -- didn’t get enough,” said Pureval.

Gun control and the Second Amendment as well as health care were the big talking points. The two also addressed the Mueller investigation when asked if Congress needs to pass legislation to protect it.

“Protecting the investigation only means we will get to some answers regardless of what the outcome would be. So I don’t see why Congress wouldn’t’ act to get those answers, whether they exonerate and implicate anybody in the government,” said Schiller.

Wenstrup disagrees.

“The truth should come and we want transparency for all Americans to know what’s going on in their government. If someone has done wrong in America, we should know about it. Let’s get it done. America is tired of waiting,” said Wenstrup.
