Treasury to approve importation of Thiba dam construction materials

The National Treasury is this week expected to issue approval to allow Strabag International import construction material for Thiba Dam with tax exemptions following a five month delay. The 8.2 billion shillings dam is expected to increase water supply to Mwea Irrigation Scheme to cover an additional 10,000 acres of land. Irrigation Principal Secretary Prof. Fred Segor says the new dam will support doubling of rice output from the Mwea irrigation Scheme to 160,000 metric tones.
