Hi I'm Lee Labrada your lean body coach. This week I'm going to show you how to figure out how much fat is in a processed food. Processed foods are those that come packaged with nutrition facts labels.

In my 12 week lean body video trainer, which you can find a bodybuilding.com (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/lee-labrada-12-week-lean-body-trainer.html), I recommend that you keep your fat calorie intake limited. That's not always easy to do because you have to watch out for hidden fats if you eat packaged food.

I'm going to show you an easy formula to help you figure out the percentage of fat in any given food. First, look on the nutrition facts panel of the package.

The first step is to take the total grams of fat per serving and multiply by nine. You multiply by nine, because there's 9 cal in each gram of fat. Multiplying by nine will give you the total calories from fat.

Next, divide those fat calories by the total number of calories per serving.

For example, in the case of this can of tuna fish, there are 69 cal in a serving, and 2 grams of fat. You multiply 2g of fat by 9 cal per gram and that gives you 16 cal from fat. You then take 16 and divide it by the number of calories in the serving, which his 69.
16 divided by 69, gives you about 25% fat by calories.

It's simple to calculate the fat content of foods. Foods that are higher than 20-30% in fat should be kept to a minimum in your diet. That's not to say that all fats are bad however, because fats like those found in Salmon, nuts, and avocados are healthy fats. They still have fat and calories mind you, so you can't eat them indiscriminately.

I'm Lee Labrada, your lean body coach. Stay lean and stay strong.
