HEBRON, Ky. (WKRC) - A deputy superintendent from Boone County Schools returned home on Saturday night after climbing the highest mountain in the world, all for a good cause.

Jim Detwiler was part of a group called Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma. which is an organization where "patients, caregivers, myeloma doctors and nurses and myeloma loved ones take on challenging mountains — Mount Kilimanjaro, the Grand Canyon, Peru’s Machu Picchu, Mt. Fuji and Everest Base Camp — to demonstrate that the advancements being made in recent years, funded and spearheaded by the MMRF, are helping patients live longer with a higher quality of life than ever before.," according to its website.

Detwiler began the journey on Oct. 25 as he and others in the group began their hike up Mount Everest in Nepal to raise money and awareness for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

According to his page on the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma website, Detwiler was diagnosed with the rare, incurable blood cancer in May of 2016.

Detwiler returned home from the climb on Saturday night at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, where he was greeted by a group of family, friends, and supporters.
