DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Plans to turn golf greens into a new development land in the rough. Deerfield Township wants to transform the former Kingswood Golf Course property it bought more than a decade ago. But some are fighting to save their green space. Valerie Crowe and her two dogs come to Kingswood Park once, sometimes twice a day. She and others are upset the one time golf course, now passive park, will make way for new development. An online petition drive has been launched to try and save it. Those opposed to the plans for development are upset about plans for a road to be built pretty much right down the middle of the park. It would no doubt impact those who walk their dogs. The township says it has plans to maintain green space at the location. Deerfield Township trustee President Chris Romano says he welcomes the publics input but says no final plans have been made for the park. It could see retail and residential. Kingswood park has been used for cyclocross races, farmers markets, and cross country races. It's great for the dogs and their owners. All that may soon be history. Deerfield Township trustees will be meeting with developers to come up with possible ideas for the park. Currently, opponents have over 800 petition signatures in hopes of saving Kingswood Park.
