Witches Night Out: Hamilton event raises money for organization that helps kids

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) - Hundreds of witches cast a spell on the city of Hamilton Friday night.

"I've been apart of Witches Night Out for the last three years; it's a big ordeal every year," said The Caring Closet volunteer Sophie Robinson.

Robinson helps her mother Tammy Bucher Sims run The Caring Closet, a non-profit that helps students in need. Every day, they learn of more Hamilton City Schools students who need help.

"Two little boys, they were brothers, there was one pair of shoes between the two of them that fit, so every other day one child got to wear the shoes that fit, and the other child had to wear dad's shoes to school, and that's regularly; that's daily we have stories like that," said Bucher Sims.

Despite their scary appearance, these are good witches. In one night they are able to fund The Caring Closet for a year.

"That's four pair of pants, eight shirts, new underwear, new socks, a coat, a pair of shoes and basic toiletries. So do the math, 821 times four pair of jeans," said Bucher Sims.

Not even halfway through the school year, they have already given out 370 boxes. 

"As the need comes, we fill the boxes. We can usually get them turned around in one or two days and sent out to the kids," said Robinson.

The things they brought Friday night will get to the kids as soon as Monday.

They must be good witches. They are great witches.
