TANK says pedestrian seriously injured by bus downtown had the right-of-way

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - TANK acknowledges the pedestrian hit by the Number 3 bus in downtown Cincinnati Tuesday morning was in the crosswalk and had the right-of-way.

62-year-old driver Anthony Trotta, a 16-year veteran of the bus system, has been placed on leave until the investigation is complete. 

32-year-old Heather Conrad suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to University Hospital for treatment, according to Cincinnati Police.

Police say Conrad was crossing Walnut when the bus turned off of fourth street and hit her. Painter Casey Williams was across the street on an elevated lift. 

“I was just sitting here painting and then I heard her yell and turned around and I seen the front of the bus hit her legs and I was kind of shocked,” said Williams. 

Witnesses say several people stopped to help Conrad who was on her way to work at a 4th Street law firm.

Police closed 4th Street from Sycamore to Walnut while they reconstructed the accident. They have ruled out speed and impairment. 

Officers used special equipment to create a digital map of the area. 

“So we’re taking pictures and also doing interviews with a few of the witnesses we’ve been able to locate so far,”said Traffic Unit Commander Lt. Brian Norris. 

Streets remained closed until 11 am.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
