Grandmother accused of covering up Pike County massacre posts bond

PIKE COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - The second of two grandmothers accused of helping cover up the 2016 Pike County massacre is out of jail.

Sixty-five-year-old Rita Jo Newcomb posted a $50,000 bond. She will now be under house arrest and electronic monitoring.

Newcomb asked to be put on house arrest because she cares for her 86-year-old mother. She pleaded not guilty to forgery, obstructing justice and perjury. Investigators say she lied to a grand jury and forged custody documents before the murders.

Newcomb is the grandmother of Jake Wagner, one of four family members arrested on capital murder charges Nov. 13 for the execution-style killings of eight members of the Rhoden family.
