Raised in Berkshire by Mr James Miller in 1848. Used to be widely grown, now rare. Ripe late July to mid August, Crunchy ans sweet with a mild flavour, goes soft within a week of being picked. Heavy cropper, but makes small aples which alwys need to be thinned in an 'on' year, tendency to crop only one year in two (biennial) see also http://www.fruitwise.net/varieties.htm
