From 'Metzler's Original Cinema Music, Book 7' (1926) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- George Howard Clutsam (1866-1951) was an Australian composer and pianist, who moved to London in 1889. He is still (just about) remembered today for 'Lilac Time' (1922), an adaptation of an existing Viennese operetta—'Das Dreimäderlhaus'—based on the music of Schubert. It is worth reading the extraordinary history of adaptation of this operetta on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Dreim%C3%A4derlhaus. You can read more about Clutsam himself here: t.ly/k634 . Clutsam wrote a lot of functional music, including this set of pieces designed to be used to accompany silent movies. The seven books of cinema music—which appeared from 1914 to 1927—were available in versions for piano solo, and for a small theatre band. It is hardly surprising that Book 7 was the last, given the impending advent of 'talkies'. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pianogems
