Gay marriage begins in Alabama

Alabama has become the 37th state where gays can legally be married. Several counties began dispensing marriage licenses to gay couples on Monday. However Alabama’s chief justice, Roy Moore, demanded that state judges refuse licenses to same-sex couples. Because of the confusion, many judges held back and some counties shut down their marriage operations altogether.
