Bolton news: Phillips excited ahead of Freedman arrival

There's a sense of excitment around the Reebok Stadium with the imminent arrival of Dougie Freedman as the new manager of Bolton Wanderers.

But while there is a new man taking charge of the Trotters,  there will still be a familiar face in the dugout for their clash with Middlesbrough this weekend.

Caretaker boss Jimmy Phillips will stay in charge for the trip to the north east but is already optimistic about what the former Crystal Palace boss can bring to the Lancashire side.

"Dougie's done well with his Palace team on a limited budget. The good thing from our point of view is that he's brought some younger players into his squad and I know we are trying to do that so it's an exicting appointment for us and I think Dougie is looking forward to the challenge."

Freedman takes over at Bolton with the side 16th in the Championship table, while the club he's leaving behind sit fourth.

But Phillips says there is plenty to work with at Wanderers as they look to get their promotion challenge started.

"It's a squad that is full of good footballers who like to get the ball down and play. They are professional and they work well, they've reacted well to the ideas put in over the past few weeks. It's a squad that can play controlled football and score goals too, as we've shown over the past few games."

So Phillips will be hoping to leave Bolton
