Warren County plays host to World Ultimate Club Championships

LEBANON, Ohio (WKRC) – The World Cup is over, but there’s another international competition at its peak right now in the Tri-State. 

The World Ultimate Club Championships are happening this week at the Lebanon Sports Complex. Ultimate frisbee is quickly growing in popularity in the United States as America plays host to the event played every four years.

“It's been absolutely incredible. Amazing to see all the diversity brought to one area. I've never seen this many ultimate fields in one place. These are basically the same size as a football field,” said co-director of communications for the tournament Kelsey Gibboney.

More than 3,000 athletes are representing 128 teams from 36 different countries, and Gibboney says most of them are staying at hotels in Warren County.

Scott Hofmann of the Warren County Convention and Visitors Bureau says that's huge for the region.

“We the estimated about $4 million of an economic impact for the county,” said Hofmann. 

Xing Guo is a member of team Siren from China. She says this is the first time China has had women in the tournament.

"It's been super good; we've played some strong teams, played some awesome games and the weather is being super nice,” said Guo.

A hundred of the games are live-streamed across the world. The championship matches in the men’s, women’s and mixed divisions will take place on Saturday at Mason High School.
