Increased police presence after armed robbery at grade school

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Police are on the lookout for the person who robbed an elementary school staff member at gunpoint.

This happened in the parking lot of an eastside elementary school in Cincinnati.

A school support worker was coming into work at Mount Washington Elementary School around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday morning when she was robbed at gunpoint.

He got away with her purse, cash and some personal belongings.

This all happened in a small parking lot near the preschool playground.

The staff member wasn't hurt and was able to get back to work the next day.

No children were at school yet.

Fortunately, the woman was able to get a good description of the suspect and it was all caught on the school's surveillance cameras.

She was also able to get in her car and drive away.

“She was conscientious and she came in extra early and as she entered, or was close to entering, an entrance toward the back of the building, she was approached and robbed,” said Janet Walsh of Cincinnati Public Schools.

No arrests have been made at this time, but in the meantime, Cincinnati police have increased patrols around the school.

The district is adding floodlights to the area where the robbery happened and is encouraging staff to come and go in groups if possible.
