Phillip Sear plays the second of a set of four piano pieces from 1933 by the Swiss/Russian composer Paul Juon (1872-1940). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Paul Juon ( Павел Фёдорович Юон ) (1872-1940) was born in Moscow to Swiss parents. He trained there, but spent much of his working life teaching and composing in Berlin, retiring to Switzerland in 1934. I have seen him described (ridiculously) as the 'Russian Brahms', but despite a relatively conservative harmonic idiom, his later music seems to me pretty 'cutting-edge' for the time in its spare textures and modern 'feel'. These pieces were dedicated to his wife, Armande. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pianogems
