MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Governor Robert Bentley addressed area business leaders at a Chamber of Commerce forum Tuesday morning. One of the big topics of the day was oil.Governor Bentley took the stage Tuesday morning to talk jobs and oil. He said Alabama's unemployment rate is now one of the lowest in the Southeast, and more jobs will come with continued development of the state's oil resources. We have 7.5 billion barrels of oil in north Alabama. We have to harvest that in an environmentally friendly way, said protestor David Underhill.Underhill said there's a way to create jobs around renewable energy, perhaps using BP settlement money to fund it.You can hire thousands of people to put solar panels and other small scale generating systems on existing buildings. That's jobs, Underhill added. The discussion also turned to the proposed pipeline in Mobile County, which would carry light Mayan crude oil. Bentley said with that project, he'd like to see more information more readily available. He said his office didn't even know about the pipeline plans until July of this year.
