This is my 500'th video I've uploaded, according to the list.
This was in the backlogs for months later, but because it's a VERY RARE style of an Otis Freight Elevator, I decided to post it for this milestone.
This is an original 1971 Otis Freight Elevator (phone added later), inside the Dead Galleria/Common Outlets Mall, Worcester, Massachusetts.
It looks like a service elevator at first, but the doors are huge, being about 5 feet wide, and 8 feet tall. When it was called down, I ran to the end of the hall to show that it's indeed marked "Freight Elevator". Although, once inside, you can tell it's a freighter.
The "Ball Bearing" fixtures are amazingly simplistic, yet, are far more durable than anything made nowadays.
We go for two rides. Sorry for moving the camera a lot, because there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to look at, while in transit.
The door mechanicals on both the outer, and inner doors, work in a weird way, as to cause the outer panel on the inner doors to buldge outwards slightly. When they disengage, the panel "pops" back into normal shape, and the inner door completely closes. That's the bang you hear just starting the downward trips.
This elevator, in the Galleria Days, served Filene's, directly next to this elevator.
This elevator rides FAR BETTER than any of the parking garage ones, including the yellow ones Schindler wrecked.
