Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Adding Subtotals by Month When Your Data is Showing Daily Dates Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we have a question from Murray about adding monthly subtotals in Excel. If you have a question for the netcast, don't hesitate to reach out to us via phone, voicemail, or email. Murray's data has dates going down the left-hand side and various amounts. She wants to add subtotals at every change in month, but the usual method of using Data, Subtotals, and selecting "At each change in, Date" doesn't give the desired result. My solution to this is to format the dates in column A to display only the month. This can be done by selecting the column, going to Format Cells, and choosing the desired date format. Once the dates are formatted, you can add the subtotals by using Data, Subtotals, and selecting "At each change in, Date." Excel will then add in the monthly subtotals. After that, you can go back and change the date format in column A to its original form. This may seem like a bit of a hassle, but it's definitely easier than adding a new column to calculate the month. Thank you, Murray, for your great question. If you have a question for the podcast, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'll do our best to answer it in a future episode. Thanks for tuning in to this netcast from MrExcel. See you next time!
