CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Every winter, we cringe at the thought of pipes freezing and furnaces going on the fritz. The recent cold spell has produced both.

When it comes to the furnaces, the guys at Hauser Air have been working overtime.

The phones have been ringing non-stop at Hauser Air in West Chester.

Some furnaces have stopped running and people are cold.

Josh Bolling of Hauser Air said he's been seeing a lot of different problems during this cold spell, especially with the pipes on high-efficiency furnaces.

The people at Hauser say they haven't seen it this bad in 20 years and they remember a cold spell back in the 70s where the service vehicles wouldn't even start. Fortunately, it hasn't gotten that bad.

Technicians say you might be able to resolve some furnace issues before calling for help.

They say one common problem is a clogged furnace intake, which is something you can check and clear yourself.

You'd also be surprised by how often technicians discover the culprit is a clogged furnace filter.
