BROWN COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A new sheriff called it a new day in Brittany Styke's unsolved 2013 murder.

She and her unborn child were shot and killed as she drove. Her toddler daughter survived a bullet to the head. The team is taking the investigation in a new direction.

The memorial cross on U.S. 68 is a constant reminder of Brittany Stykes' murder. A security camera in Georgetown captured her driving the Jeep out of town. Minutes later she and her unborn son were dead. 14-month-old Aubrey was wounded in her car seat.

Tuesday, January 10, 2017, the new people in power in Brown County came together in a show of force.

"BCI Brown County, the sheriffs office prosecutor are all going to work together to put all manpower resources to get this case solved," said Zac Corbin, Brown County Prosecutor.

An agent with Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigations has been going over the case. What was done and what needed to be done, who needs to be questioned or questioned again? The new Brown County sheriff said solving Brittany's murder was a priority the family and for Brown County.

"One of the reasons I ran for sheriff is these painful cases, is so I can look at the family in the eye and say we've done everything we can do," said Sheriff Gordon Ellis.

One of the first things Ellis did was hire former Cincinnati Police homicide Detective John Burke as the commander of the Drug and Major Crime Task Force. He'll work directly with B.C.I.

Crime Stoppers is also part of the team effort to solve Brittany's murder. There's a reward for information and people should call the hotline at 513-352-3040.
