Phillip Sear plays a 1923 transcription of an Icelandic folksong by the Icelandic composer Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson (1847-1927). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson (1847-1927) is best-remembered as the composer of the Icelandic national anthem. As a young man he was befriended by the Norwegian violinist Johan Svendsen, who encouraged him to study composition in mainland Europe. He studied in Copenhagen, and later Leipzig (with Reinecke), and went to live in Edinburgh, Scotland where there were more work opportunities than in Iceland. Having been granted a pension by the Icelandic government he returned there in the 1920s, but died in Copenhagen. Some of his chamber music has been recorded by Naxos. My thumbnail shows Point Panorama, near the composer's birthplace, Seltjarnarnes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pianogems
