Electric current is nothing but the flow of charge. It is defined as total charge crossing a an area of cross- section in a particular time. I = Q/t Charges can move only when there is a potential difference between the two points. This is done by the power source like a cell or battery in the circuit Electrical potential is defined as the work done to move charge from one point to other. V=W/Q Resistance offered by the conductor is due to the collision of the electrons with other atoms in the conductor. It depends on the length, Area and the type of the material R= p l/A Where there are more than one resistance, they can be arranged in series and parallel In series Rp=R1+R2+R3 For parallel arrangement, the effective resistance decreases 1/Rp = 1/R1+ 1/R2 + 1/R3 When the charges experience resistance they lose energy in the form of heat. This heat depends on the potential difference, current and the time H= V*I*t The heating effect is used in many electrical appliances like heater, toaster, heater etc.
