Plans by the government to mitigate the ongoing drought in parts of the country will cost the exchequer 9.5 Billion shillings. Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich both the national and county governments would be forced to review their 2016/2017 budgets in a bid to allocate more cash towards drought mitigation measures, if the ongoing drought persists. The government has in the meantime banned maize exports as it tries to peg the yawning gap of the eight million bags deficit from the 2016 harvest season.
