Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Mastering GeoFlow: Setting Up and Using the Excel 3D Map Add-in. Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel podcast. In today's episode, we will be diving into the mechanics of GeoFlow, a new add-in for Excel 2013 Pro Plus. In our previous episode, we introduced you to this cool new tool, but today we will be showing you how to set it up and use it effectively. First, let's take a look at our data set. It's a smaller set compared to the one we used in the previous episode, with 218 libraries and their corresponding addresses, population, and projected book arrival dates. We obtained this data from the Azure DataMarket. To use this data in GeoFlow, we need to first add it to PowerPivot. This can be done by converting the data into a table and then adding it to the data model. Once the data is in the data model, we can go back to Excel and click on the 3D Map option under the Data tab. This will open up the GeoFlow interface. The first step is to specify the geographic fields, which in our case are City, State, and Zip. GeoFlow will then retrieve the locations from Bing and plot them on the map. We can then use the county population as the height of each column to get a better visual representation of the data. GeoFlow also allows us to add a time component to our data. In our example, we have the projected book arrival dates for each library. By adding this field to the time component, we can see the data points appear and spread out over time, giving us an animated view of the data. This feature is great for tracking the progress of a project or shipment. We can also create a tour in GeoFlow, which allows us to zoom in and out of different locations and add scenes to our tour. This is a great way to present our data and tell a story with it. We can even add a theme to our map to label the locations and make them more visually appealing. Overall, GeoFlow is a fantastic tool that I am in love with. It's currently in beta, but I have high hopes for its final release to the public at the end of 2013 or early 2014. So if you have Excel 2013 Pro Plus, be sure to give GeoFlow a try and see how it can enhance your data visualization.
