Phillip Sear plays a festive piece from a 1923 set by the British composer Ernest Austin (1874-1947). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ernest Austin (1874-1947) was a self-taught English composer, and brother of the baritone and composer Frederick Austin - who is best known for his performing version of the Beggar's Opera. Ernest - who was also an occasional singer - wrote orchestral works, many songs and some piano pieces. He is perhaps best remembered for a 2 3/4 hour work in 12 parts for organ with narrator based on the 'Pilgrim's Progress'. You can see the score of that very interesting work here: https://goo.gl/L9QtK2 . This piece opens and closes with evocations of church bells, and includes an interesting harmonisation of 'The First Nowell'.
