In the technical part of this Fight class, we went over a variation of the Plucking Defense against Low to Medium Front Kick (Level 3 technique) and counter attacking with a Front Kick/Straight Punch Combination (Level 1). We also went over how to prevent your sparring partner from grabbing your front kick with this defense by using your punches to set-up or hide the kick.

The beginning of this video shows an example of me using this defense and counter attack against JJ. He throws the front kick at my stomach and I use the low plucking defense variation to grab underneath his heel with my left hand. I use my right hand to press down on the top of his foot to 'sandwich' his foot between my hands to secure the hold. I also raise my left leg to attempt a Defense against Front Kick - Redirecting with Shin (Level 2) in case his kick travels lower than expected and I miss the low plucking defense with my hands. Then I throw a front kick underneath his now exposed groin. The groin kick brings his hands down which leaves his face open for my right straight punch. In a real fight I would continue throwing more counter attacks. But since this is sparring, I decide to let go of JJ's foot and start taking steps backward to get out of range of any possible counter attacks from him.

Thank you to all the students how attended this Fight class! Please let me know if you want an advise about your sparring matches.
