If you already built the old factory in Minecraft 1.2.5 and it's now broken in 1.3.1, this is for you! Destroy your old machine room, get rid of the dreadful cactae, place the new machinery sideways and you're good to go!

Sand production rate is more like 21 sand/sec with redstone repeaters set to 2 and 1, 27.3 sand/sec with one redstone and one repeater set to 1 (but the latter only worked straight for me, not sideways and broke the outermost pistons).

If this seems to be broken in 1.3.2, remove the redstone repeaters from the "mirrored piston structure" in the video at 2'35" and place them again with the exact same settings. For some funny reason, this has fixed the problem for me!
