WASHINGTON (WPMI) Governor Robert Bentley was on Capitol Hill Wednesday urging Congress to pass a long-term transportation bill. The governor is pushing for flexibility to use federal money on projects that state and local officials see as priorities. The I-10 bridge is one project he emphasized. "They understand the importance of it and we'll just wait and see. There is a funding shortage nationally with the national debt being $18-trillion," Bentley explained to Local 15 News, "We don't know how much money is going to be put in highways, but we do want them to put it in so it will be for a certain length of time so we can adapt to that." Governor Bentley was one of only two governors that spoke Wednesday. He represented Alabama and the National Governor's Association.
