Giving your lines ornamentation is key in creating that gypsy mood. You need to know what these little 'twiddles' are. Here's an ornamentation on a lick over A7 where the notes are A-G#-A. 1. Pick the 1st note (A) with a down stroke 2. Hammer on to the ornament note (does't matter which) with pinky. 3. Pull off back to the 1st note (A) 4. Pick for the next note (G#) 5. Pick the next note which is where you started (A) For the second ornamentation in the example phrase you use the same pattern. And this goes for practically all ornamentation. When you start to add these into your playing you'll get much more of the gypsy character. Have fun! It’s all about learning and absorbing these small tasty bite size ideas into your playing.
