CINCINNATI (WKRC)- As news broke that the Cincinnati Reds hired Cincinnati native David Bell as the next manager, one former teammate of Bell’s praised the Reds decision. 

The Reds join a growing list of teams hiring former players, giving them a first managerial job in Major League Baseball.

Andy Nagel is the Director of Baseball Operations at the University of Cincinnati and played high school baseball with Bell at Moeller.

“Dave grew up here, his dad played for the Reds, his grandpa played for the Reds. He's a Reds guy, he's a baseball guy,” Nagel said.

The Bell family has rich Reds history and the Bells are one of five three-generation families in MLB history.

Bell’s grandfather, Gus, is in the Reds Hall of Fame and was selected to the MLB All Star team four times.

David Bell played 12 major league seasons and played in the 2002 World Series with the San Francisco Giants. Nagel says he hopes that kind of experiences gets him the right trust from the players.

"Hopefully he brings in the right people on his staff to bring the right pieces of the puzzle together and move on and get October baseball back in the Queen City,” Nagel said. “That’s what we are dying for.”

Bell will be introduced at a press conference at 11 a.m. Monday at Great American Ball Park.
