#2 from 'Miniature Suite', Op.16 (1913) --------------------------------------------------- Phillip Sear plays a short waltz by the short-lived British composer Ernest Farrar (1885–1918). -------------------------------------------------- Ernest Farrar had his career cut short by an early death from machine gun fire after just two days on the Western Front. He had trained as an organist and composer (with Stanford) at the Royal College of Music. Farrar is mainly remembered today for songs, but some orchestral works have been recorded. He was an early composition teacher of Gerald Finzi, and Frank Bridge—a friend—dedicated his piano sonata to Farrar's memory. A fuller biography of him can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/y95bzeld . The suite from which this comes was dedicated to Farrar's wife, Olive, whom he had married in the previous year—maybe it was a wedding present?
