Phillip Sear plays a rumba by the Ukrainian jazz pianist, composer and conductor Alexander Tsfasman (1906-71).

Alexander Naumovich Tsfasman (Александр Цфасман, 1906-71) was born in Zaporizhya, and studied at the conservatories of Nizhny Novgorod and subsequently Moscow (graduating from Felix Blumenfeld 's piano class in 1930). He became an important figure in Soviet jazz. He organised the first Moscow jazz orchestra (in 1927), and was the first Soviet artist to play jazz on radio and on a recording. He was also the first conservatory-educated Russian jazz musician. He wrote stage and orchestral works including concerti, and I guess that he can be conceived as a Soviet Gershwin. You can read much more about him, and the esteem he enjoyed, here: https://goo.gl/iF2RDY . This piece comes from a collection of short dance pieces compiled under the title 'A Happy Meeting' in 1988, but (obviously) written much earlier. I'm playing the piece through just once on this video, but the score has a repeat of the whole piece (the convention for popular songs), so could be played twice if required. My thumbnail has a photo of a rumba performed by Artem Gaylit and Elizaveta Shibaeva, Belarus at the 2012 World Dancesport championships in Vienna.
