MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The push to improve Mobiles minor league ball park moved through the citys finance meeting Wednesday. Committee members recommended council consider the Hank Aaron Stadium fund after discussing contracts and uncertainties with the city attorney and chief of staff. According to reports, Hank Aaron Stadium has been struggling with low attendance for years and hasnt been current on its rent since 2013. Committee member Bess Rich had questions about the rent, lease and the "citys priority list." After several discussions, the remaining committee members voted to move forward with the $456,000 capital fund that would be used to improve lighting and more at the stadium. Colby Cooper, the citys chief of staff, said there is money in the budget available and the city needs to invest in its ballpark. "What we are committed to doing is resolving the terms of contract that are in dispute, those areas where both the city and organization are in non-compliance and really move forward here, Cooper said, we need to make something of what is a of considerable value to this community. From here, Mobile City Council has to vote on the Hank Aaron Stadium fund. The fund is on the agenda for the next meeting on January 20.
