MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) This has been a rough summer for a lot of families across America, sequestration led to furloughs, meaning less money for hundreds of thousands of households. So what about the lawmakers who could have prevented it?Theyre taking a lot of heat this summer, in part because of the many perks theyre enjoying while others are struggling.When congress adorned for the summer, they did so without solving our countrys budget crisis leaving thousands of works in the lurch, facing forced furloughs or worse. A hard pill to swallow as lawmakers left for their five week break. Also, after their careers are done, the already-rich members of congress get help with retirement. Just like all federal employees, members are entitled to both a pension and a 401K. Few private companies offer that to anyone anymore. But not everything you read online about Congress is true. Members of Congress do not get an exemption from Obamacare. Currently, they can choose about ten health plans but come January 1, 2014 they will be limited to the plans offered by their home state.
