MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) In a YouTube video produced by her pastor, the former teacher convicted of having sex with her 14-year-old student apologized for her selfish actions made out of insecurity. The 7 and a half minute video, posted by Mark Wyatt shows a soft-spoken Alicia Gray sitting on a bench to offer her apology just before heading to Metro Jail Friday. She said selfishness was the reason she decided to have sex with a student. Selfish really is the word, I acted out on my own insecurities without thought or concern for anyone else's well-being, Gray said, I realize I hurt many people and also realize the implications of what I've done.Gray talked about being in a place of peace, being changed and renewed through her faith.I confess my sin and ask forgiveness fro each person involved, anyone who's been hurt or touched by this, small or big, it's all the same, hurt is hurt, she said. Gray said she was ready for the consequences, which include a 6 month jail sentence, the permanent loss of her teaching license and a lifetime label as a sex offender. Despite the message, she said she understands many will still be unforgiving. You're completely justified to feel that way but I do pray that each of you be free of the pain and bitterness, anger, anxiety, whatever you feel, those are not things that are not from God, God doesn't want that for you. A telling moment in the video is when Gray addressed the victim, her student, who, because of Gray's plea deal, will not have to testify in open court. It should have never happened to you, but God makes beauty from ashes, he can restore your lives that have been broken because I chose to act out of selfishness and hurt people. I continue to pray that the Healer of all Healers can give you freedom from the pain you've experienced.
