MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) ‚€œ The Senior Bowl is just around the
corner (seriously, players check in on Sunday) and Auburn‚„s Nick Marshall just
made the cut. Added as an alternate earlier this week, Marshall will play
quarterback for the South team. And he has Marcus Mariota‚„s lack of an answer
to a Senior Bowl invite to thank for that.

‚“Because of the unique nature of the Marcus Mariota
circumstance, we felt like instead of waiting around, with some of the changes
we‚„ve had on the roster it frees up at least a spot,‚ Senior Bowl executive
director Phil Savage told AL.com, he thought that the next-best player to bring
on would be Nick Marshall. He‚„s going to play quarterback. He is not going to
experiment at cornerback this next week. And if Mariota accepts we would have
the unusual circumstance of having four quarterbacks on one side.‚

If Mariota does indeed head to Mobile next week, the South
team would end up with four quarterbacks, which would be a first.

Marshall has indicated he‚„d be willing to play defensive
back at the next level, which is where many personnel types project him. I
know the next month when he goes to the combine, even if he goes as a
quarterback, at the end of the meeting they ask ‚œWhat alternate positions do
you want to see some of these players at?‚„ The hands are going to go up, ‚œWe
want to see Nick Marshall in the defensive backfield,'‚ Savage said.

Marshall threw for 4,508 yards with 34 touchdowns and 13
interceptions while rushing for 1,866 yards with 23 touchdowns in two seasons
as the Tigers‚„ starter. He guided Auburn to an SEC championship and national
championship appearance in 2013.

The Senior Bowl will be played Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
ET (NFL Network).
