MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley says state taxes will increase over the next four years. The Republican governor said Friday that no one wants to pay more. However, he said Alabama has no choice if it hopes to address a lingering budget crisis. Bentley did not put forward a specific plan in remarks delivered Friday to the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama. He said the state cannot solve its fiscal problems through spending cuts alone. Bentley has been speaking about the state's budget problems for months. In November, he said Alabama needed to raise an additional $700 million and suggested the state could eliminate some tax deductions. Lawmakers would have to approve any tax plan that Bentley put forward.
