MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Two homicides make for a busy start to the year for the Mobile Police Department. Investigators were called out to two separate shootings on December 2nd. In both instances, the victims knew their shooters. Its been a very busy day, said Ashley Rains, spokesperson for Mobile Police Department. Police are hoping the days incidents are not a pace maker for the rest of the year, as the number of homicides investigated in Mobile County has been growing the last few years. In 2009, there were 24 homicide cases worked by MPD. That's a much smaller number than 2014, when there were 31. "Having one at the very beginning of the year is not something we want to see happen especially when we are working toward keeping Mobile crime free," said Rains. Nine cases remain unsolved from 2014.
